California Quail by Barbara Banthien.
I often see little families of California Quail burst into a flurry of flight if I surprise them on my evening walks, their topknots bobbing as they scurry to hide in the underbrush. Then they disappearing leaving no trace. I have to smile. A highly sociable bird, they gather in small flocks called coveys that can number between 10-200 birds. These birds are very sociable, like us humans.
