Framed original oil painting by Erin Dertner, landscape of Mendocino ocean bluffs and village in the bright early morning light. Details of the ocean view bench, and iconic water tower and church along Main Street. Image size 18" x 24" framed size 28" x 34".

About Almost Blinding, Erin says:

"When living in the village of Mendocino, I could easily pop out of bed and amble down to the headlands at first light. I decided to work big on this particular day and with my oils strove to capture the rim lighting on each receding bluff, the glorious light on Main Street’s historic buildings and the blinding light on the white water as the waves came in. I was able to work quickly and block everything in with my brush and lavender based medium that makes the paint glide across the canvas and later I added texture with my palette knife over almost every area. This is an iconic view of the village that is truly mesmerizing in the morning when it’s ablaze with light and the streets are still asleep."

A long-time Mendocino plein air artist, Erin is proficient in oils with a palette knife, oils with brushes, watercolors, and acrylics.

Painting, studying and teaching the subject of light is Erin’s driving force. The cool shadows of the early morning and those that fall long and warm in the evening enliven her creative soul as nothing else. Subject matter is secondary to the sunlight itself, though her locations speak volumes about God’s wondrous world of color, drama and mystery.
