My wife and I went to Monterey for a weekend get a way and hopefully some photo opportunities. The bay was active with diving pelicans and cormorants. I got to enjoy the show and capture many action shots of the pelicans diving and the birds fishing. The gulls were also present hoping to snatch a meal.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e    Although not an action shot “Floating Trio” was our favorite shot of the day. We loved the sharpness of each pelican and that they were of different coloring. Their reflections in the water and the beautiful color of the water completed the picture.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e   The day was capped off with a nice sunset. We felt quite lucky to have caught such a beautiful day. There is a small parking lot on the ocean side at this mile post. If you walk out on the peninsula you see beautiful views of sea stacks to the left. To the right you see the beach where this photo was taken. A path leads down to the beach where I went for this photo outing. When you get to the beach there is a blow hole on the right side. When surf is active you will hear the loud roar as the surf hits this area and sprays high into the air. The sound is very obvious even in the parking lot.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e   In the afternoon I was photographing the blow hole and spray which was much higher earlier in the day. I decided to wait to see what would happen when the sun disappeared behind the rock. It turned out to be a good decision as the angle of the sun directed the beam through the hole in the rock and onto the beach. I was fortunate with my timing as this sun angle is only available about one week out of the year. The photo also benefited from the golden hue of sunset lighting. Photographers refer to this as the Golden Hour.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e         This photo is a 1x2, height to width ratio.  All of my photos are reproduced as dye infused metal prints.  These metal prints have unsurpassed luminescence and have outstanding archival qualities. The photo was taken on January 7, 2013. I woke up that morning and saw this beautiful sunrise developing. I quickly jumped out of bed and hustled to my favorite sunrise location. Lucky that it is a short walk from home. While photographing this remarkable sunrise I was concentrating on capturing the best view and framing the shot by looking through my camera. What makes this photo unique is what I saw when I looked up while I was photographing this beautiful sunrise.  I saw the rays, which lasted less than 2 minutes before they faded and disappeared. Sometime it pays to look at the bigger picture including looking behind you. The park is in Mendocino County about 15 miles east of Comptche.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e   The park is beautiful any time of year but really comes to life after it rains. The stream beds are filled with water, the ferns and moss are refreshed and dampness makes the ground and trees more vibrant. My wife and I were waiting for such conditions. When I first arrived at Black Point Beach, just north of the Sea Ranch Lodge, it was still partially foggy. However, about 30 minutes later the fog lifted and offered conditions that did not disappoint. I positioned myself on the lowest shelf to get as close to the waves as possible. I constantly had to clean my lens because of the spray from the crashing waves. One sneaker wave provided me a good shower. The Allen’s and Rufous migrate through our area on occasion. I always look forward to hearing the buzz of the Rufous feeding on the Pride of Madeira flowers. This plant thrives on the coast and does not require any water. The hummingbirds love it. My goal is to try to capture the hummingbirds, in flight, with color flashing while on or near the flowers. \u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eOn March 26 2018 I was photographing the Rufous from my back deck when I saw one sitting atop a Pride of Madeira flower that was in prime condition. The hummer kept moving its head and when the light hit it right it was brilliant. I focused on the hummers eye and shot in burst at 10 frames a second so I could capture the moment of prime color. Once the canvas is fabricated, a juxtaposition of surface texture is established. The cloth is painted, printed, and stitched to create a rich layered surface of imagery.
