I honestly wish I could do this more often because I think it’s very soothing to the viewer even if it presents some difficulties to the painter. The space divisions and variety of shapes is very important when composing something simple and it truly is a challenge. I was especially drawn to the way the sky was reflected on the high spots within the blue water and the way it set off the foam and spray against the dark rocks. The colorful rivulets within the cracks echo the ocean and serve to lead your eye around the image. The palette knife works well to create texture which is paramount in a scene like this, between the spray and craggy rocks and also the calm areas.
