Richard Weiss, Le Dejeuner Revisited, acrylic kinetic painting, 36 inches by 44 inches, framed in black.

"Le Déjeuner sur l’Herbe, Edouard Manet’s provocative painting sparked public controversy when it came out in 1863.  I’ve always wondered why the two men kept their clothes on while the ladies were undressed.  I decided to have fun revisiting the scene by reversing the roles to see how today’s viewers would react, exactly 160 years later. Kinetic seemed to be the best approach to add a twist to the subject, allowing viewers to create their own experience of one image morphing into another."
